Protection of your personal data

1) Introduction and contact details of the data controller

1.1 We are pleased that you are visiting our website and thank you for your interest. Below we inform you about the handling of your personal data when using our website. Personal data means any data by which you can be personally identified.

1.2 The data controller responsible for data processing on this website within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is FinEase Financial Service GmbH, Karlstraße 13, 35641 Schöffengrund, Germany, Email: info@finease-fs.de. The data controller is the natural or legal person who alone or jointly with others determines the purposes and means of the processing of personal data.

2) Data collection when visiting our website

2.1 When using our website for informational purposes only, i.e. if you do not register or otherwise transmit information to us, we only collect the data that your browser sends to our server (so-called "server log files"). When you access our website, we collect the following data, which is technically necessary for us to display the website to you:

  • The website of ours that you visited
  • Date and time of access
  • Amount of data sent in bytes
  • Source/referrer from which you reached the page
  • Browser used
  • Operating system used
  • IP address used (if applicable: in anonymised form)

Processing is carried out in accordance with Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR on the basis of our legitimate interest in improving the stability and functionality of our website. The data is not passed on or used in any other way. However, we reserve the right to check the server log files subsequently if there is concrete evidence of unlawful use.

2.2 This website uses SSL or TLS encryption for security reasons and to protect the transmission of personal data and other confidential content (e.g. orders or enquiries to the controller). You can recognise an encrypted connection by the string "https://" and the lock symbol in your browser bar.

3) Hosting & Content Delivery Network

We use a provider for hosting our website and displaying its content that provides its services exclusively on servers within the European Union, either itself or through selected sub-contractors.

All data collected on our website is processed on these servers.

We have concluded a data processing agreement with the provider that ensures the protection of our site visitors' data and prohibits unauthorised disclosure to third parties.

4) Cookies

To make visiting our website attractive and to enable the use of certain functions, we use cookies, i.e. small text files that are stored on your device. Some of these cookies are automatically deleted again when you close your browser (so-called "session cookies"), while others remain on your device for a longer period and allow us to save page settings (so-called "persistent cookies"). In the latter case, you can find out the storage period from the overview in your web browser's cookie settings.

If personal data is also processed by individual cookies we use, processing is carried out in accordance with Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for the performance of the contract, in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR in the case of consent given, or in accordance with Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR to safeguard our legitimate interests in the best possible functionality of the website and a user-friendly and effective design of your visit.

You can set your browser so that you are informed when cookies are set and can decide individually whether to accept them or to exclude the acceptance of cookies in certain cases or in general.

Please note that if you do not accept cookies, the functionality of our website may be limited.

First-party registration attribution (URL parameters and browser storage)

If you open our registration page with certain URL parameters or sign up through it, we process the following information to attribute your sign-up to marketing and acquisition channels and to our own-platform referral and partner programmes (this is separate from the external third-party affiliate networks in section 8):

  • entry – indicates the product entry/funnel (e.g. quiz, how-to-study, newsletter signup). The value is stored in localStorage under the key gfs_entry_source (limited retention, currently up to 30 days).
  • ref – referral code under our student referral programme. parref – identifier of a referral or affiliate partner on our platform. Whichever value is present (ref and/or parref) is stored in the gfs_referral cookie and additionally in localStorage under gfs_referral_code.
  • gfs_origin – internal source from email campaigns or CTAs (e.g. nurture email, study-guide link) to document the internal touchpoint.
  • utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content – campaign parameters. They are only stored persistently in the gfs_referral cookie if you consent to Statistics or Marketing in the cookie settings. If you give consent, they may also be stored together with gfs_origin in sessionStorage (key gfs_attribution_session) for up to the current browser session; with immediate sign-up, typically until registration.

The legal basis for processing ref, parref and entry in connection with registration and use of the platform (referral/partner attribution, entry funnel) is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract / pre-contract). UTM parameters and gfs_origin are only processed in cookies, localStorage or sessionStorage as described above if they are not strictly required for performance of the contract – in that case only if you consent to Statistics or Marketing; the legal basis is then Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. Further details are shown in the cookie banner and in section 4 above.

5) Contact

When you contact us (e.g. via contact form or email), personal data is processed – solely for the purpose of handling and responding to your request and only to the extent necessary for that purpose.

The legal basis for processing this data is our legitimate interest in responding to your request in accordance with Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. If your contact is aimed at concluding a contract, the additional legal basis for processing is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Your data will be deleted when it can be inferred from the circumstances that the matter in question has been conclusively clarified and provided that there are no statutory retention obligations.

6) Data processing when opening a customer account

6.1 In accordance with Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, personal data will continue to be collected and processed to the extent necessary if you provide it to us when opening a customer account. You can see which data is required for opening an account from the input mask of the relevant form on our website.

Deletion of your customer account is possible at any time and can be done by sending a message to the controller's address given above. After deletion of your customer account, your data will be deleted unless all contracts concluded have been fully executed, no statutory retention periods apply and we have no legitimate interest in further storage.

6.2 Data transfer to our product partners

For the purpose of contract mediation, your data is transferred to the respective product partner whose offer you have selected via the relevant product page of our platform and whose identity is evident from the respective offer, in accordance with Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. The product partner processes the transmitted data for the purpose of handling your application. After the transfer, the product partner is responsible for the further processing of your data.

7) Use of customer data for direct marketing

When you subscribe to our email newsletter, we send you regular information about our offers. The only mandatory information for sending the newsletter is your email address. The data collected when you subscribe to the newsletter is used strictly for the intended purpose.

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time via the link provided in the newsletter or by sending a message to the controller mentioned above. After unsubscribing, your email address will be deleted from our newsletter distribution list without delay, unless you have expressly consented to further use of your data or we reserve the right to use your data for other purposes that are permitted by law and about which we inform you in this statement.

7.2 Sending the email newsletter to existing customers

Data processing is carried out solely on the basis of our legitimate interest in personalised direct marketing in accordance with Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. If you initially objected to the use of your email address for this purpose, we will not send you any emails.

You are entitled to object to the use of your email address for the aforementioned advertising purpose at any time with effect for the future by notifying the controller mentioned at the beginning. You will only incur the transmission costs according to the basic rates. After we receive your objection, the use of your email address for advertising purposes will be discontinued without delay.

Subject to your express consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, the provider also carries out a statistical analysis of the success of newsletter campaigns by means of web beacons or tracking pixels in the emails sent, which can measure opening rates and specific interactions with the newsletter content. Device information (e.g. time of access, IP address, browser type and operating system) is also collected and evaluated, but not merged with other data.

You can revoke your consent to newsletter tracking at any time with effect for the future.

9) Web analytics

Google Analytics 4

This website uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, 4 Barrow St, Dublin, D04 E5W5, Ireland ("Google"), which enables analysis of your use of our website.

By default, when you visit the website, Google Analytics 4 sets cookies that are stored on your device as small text modules and collect certain information. This information includes your IP address, which is however truncated by Google to exclude direct identification.

The information is transmitted to Google servers and processed there. Transfers to Google LLC in the USA may also occur.

Google uses the information collected on our behalf to evaluate your use of the website, compile reports on website activity for us and provide other services relating to website and internet use. The IP address transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics and truncated is not merged with other Google data. Data collected as part of the use of Google Analytics 4 is stored for two months and then deleted.

All processing described above, in particular the setting of cookies on the device used, only takes place if you have given us your express consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
Without your consent, Google Analytics 4 will not be used during your visit. You can revoke consent you have given at any time with effect for the future. To exercise your right of withdrawal, please disable this service via the "Cookie Consent Tool" provided on the website.

We have concluded a data processing agreement with Google that ensures the protection of our site visitors' data and prohibits unauthorised disclosure to third parties.

Further legal information on Google Analytics 4 can be found at https://business.safety.google/intl/en/privacy/, https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=en&gl=de and https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites

Demographic characteristics
Google Analytics 4 uses the special "demographic characteristics" feature and can create statistics that make statements about the age, gender and interests of site visitors. This is done through the analysis of advertising and information from third-party providers. This allows target groups to be identified for marketing activities. However, the data collected cannot be attributed to any specific person and is deleted after a storage period of two months.

Google Signals
As an extension to Google Analytics 4, Google Signals may be used on this website to generate cross-device reports. If you have enabled personalised ads and linked your devices to your Google account, Google may, subject to your consent to the use of Google Analytics in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, analyse your usage behaviour across devices and create database models, including for cross-device conversions. We do not receive personal data from Google, only statistics. If you wish to stop cross-device analysis, you can disable the "Personalised advertising" function in your Google account settings. Follow the instructions on this page: https://support.google.com/My-Ad-Center-Help/answer/12155764?hl=en

Further information on Google Signals can be found at the following link: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/7532985?hl=en

User IDs
As an extension to Google Analytics 4, the "User IDs" feature may be used on this website. If you have consented to the use of Google Analytics 4 in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, have created an account on this website and log in on different devices with that account, your activities, including conversions, may be analysed across devices.

For data transfers to the USA, the provider has signed up to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which ensures compliance with European data protection standards on the basis of an adequacy decision by the European Commission.

10) Retargeting / remarketing and conversion tracking

10.1 Meta Pixel with advanced matching

Within our online offering we use the "Meta Pixel" service of the following provider in advanced matching mode: Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, 4 Grand Canal Square, Dublin 2, Ireland ("Meta")

When a user clicks on an advertisement we place on Facebook or Instagram, the URL of our linked page is extended by a parameter using "Meta Pixel". This URL parameter is then stored in the user's browser after redirection via a cookie set by our linked page itself. In addition, this cookie collects specific customer data such as the email address that we collect on our website linked to the Facebook or Instagram ad for transactions such as purchases, account logins or registrations (advanced matching). The cookie is then read and enables the transmission of the data, including specific customer data, to Meta.

We use "Meta Pixel" with advanced matching to make our advertisements ("Ads") on Facebook and/or Instagram more effective and to ensure that they match users' interests or have certain characteristics (e.g. interests in certain topics or products determined from websites visited), which we transmit to Meta ("Custom Audiences").

We also analyse the effectiveness of our advertisements by tracking whether users were redirected to our website after clicking an advertisement (conversion). Compared with the standard variant of "Meta Pixel", the advanced matching feature helps us measure the effectiveness of our advertising campaigns better by capturing more attributed conversions.

All data transmitted is stored and processed by Meta so that it can be assigned to the respective user profile and Meta can use the data for its own advertising purposes in accordance with Meta's data use policy (https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/). The data may enable Meta and its partners to place ads on and off Facebook.

All processing described above, in particular the setting of cookies for reading information on the device used, only takes place if you have given us your express consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can revoke consent you have given at any time with effect for the future by disabling this service in the "Cookie Consent Tool" provided on the website.

We have concluded a data processing agreement with the provider that ensures the protection of our site visitors' data and prohibits unauthorised disclosure to third parties.

Information generated by Meta is usually transmitted to a Meta server and stored there; in this context, data may also be transferred to servers of Meta Platforms Inc. in the USA.

For data transfers to the USA, the provider has signed up to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which ensures compliance with European data protection standards on the basis of an adequacy decision by the European Commission.

10.2 Google Ads remarketing

This website uses remarketing technology from the following provider: Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, 4 Barrow St, Dublin, D04 E5W5, Ireland

For this purpose, Google sets a cookie in the browser of your device, which automatically enables interest-based advertising by means of a pseudonymous cookie ID and on the basis of the pages you visit. Further data processing only takes place if you have consented to Google linking your internet and app browsing history with your Google account and using information from your Google account to personalise ads that you see on the web. If you are logged in to Google during your visit to our website in this case, Google uses your data together with Google Analytics data to create and define audience lists for cross-device remarketing. To do this, Google temporarily links your personal data with Google Analytics data to build audiences. In the context of using Google Ads remarketing, personal data may also be transferred to servers of Google LLC in the USA.

All processing described above, in particular the setting of cookies for reading information on the device used, only takes place if you have given us your express consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. Without this consent, remarketing technology will not be used during your visit.

You can revoke consent you have given at any time with effect for the future. To exercise your withdrawal, please disable this service in the "Cookie Consent Tool" provided on the website.

For data transfers to the USA, the provider has signed up to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which ensures compliance with European data protection standards on the basis of an adequacy decision by the European Commission.

10.3 Google Ads conversion tracking

This website uses the online advertising programme "Google Ads" and, as part of Google Ads, conversion tracking by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, 4 Barrow St, Dublin, D04 E5W5, Ireland ("Google").

We use Google Ads to draw attention to our attractive offers on external websites using advertising media ("Google AdWords"). We can determine how successful individual advertising measures are in relation to the advertising campaign data. In doing so, we pursue the aim of showing you advertising that is of interest to you, making our website more interesting for you and achieving a fair calculation of advertising costs incurred.

The conversion tracking cookie is set when a user clicks on a Google Ads advertisement. Cookies are small text files stored on your device. These cookies usually expire after 30 days and are not used for personal identification. If the user visits certain pages of this website and the cookie has not yet expired, Google and we can recognise that the user clicked on the ad and was redirected to that page. Each Google Ads customer receives a different cookie. Cookies cannot therefore be tracked across Google Ads customers' websites. The information obtained using the conversion cookie is used to create conversion statistics for Google Ads customers who have opted for conversion tracking. Customers learn the total number of users who clicked on their ad and were redirected to a page with a conversion tracking tag. They do not receive information that personally identifies users.

In the context of using Google Ads, personal data may also be transferred to servers of Google LLC in the USA.

Details of the processing initiated by Google Ads conversion tracking and how Google handles data from websites can be found here: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites

You can also permanently object to the setting of cookies by Google Ads conversion tracking by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available from Google at the following link:
https://support.google.com/My-Ad-Center-Help/answer/12155656?hl=en

To address users whose data we have received in the context of business or business-like relationships in a more interest-based way for advertising purposes, we use a customer matching function as part of Google Ads. To this end, we transmit one or more files with aggregated customer data (mainly email addresses and telephone numbers) electronically to Google. Google does not have access to plain-text data; instead, it encrypts the information in the customer files automatically during transmission using a special algorithm. The encrypted information can then only be used by Google to match it to existing Google accounts that the data subjects have set up. This enables personalised advertising to be served across all Google services linked to the respective Google account.

Transmission of customer data to Google only takes place if you have given us express consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can revoke this consent towards us at any time with effect for the future. Further information on Google's privacy measures regarding the customer matching function can be found here: https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/6334160?hl=en&ref_topic=10550182

Google's privacy policy can be viewed here: https://business.safety.google/intl/en/privacy/ and https://www.google.com/policies/privacy/

For data transfers to the USA, the provider has signed up to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which ensures compliance with European data protection standards on the basis of an adequacy decision by the European Commission.

This website uses conversion tracking technology from the following provider: Snap Inc., 63 Market Street, Venice, CA 90291, USA

If you reached our website from an advertisement on the provider's domain, the success of the advertisement can be tracked using cookies and/or similar technologies (tracking pixels, web beacons, pings or HTTP requests).

For this purpose, certain device and browser information, including where applicable your IP address, is read via the tracking technology in order to capture and evaluate user actions predefined by us (e.g. completed transactions, leads, searches on the website, visits to product pages). This enables statistics to be created on usage behaviour on our website after redirection from an advertisement, which we use to optimise our offering.

For transfers of data to the USA, the provider relies on standard contractual clauses of the European Commission, which are intended to ensure compliance with European data protection standards.

10.5 TikTok Pixel

This website uses conversion tracking technology from the following provider: TikTok Technology Limited, 10 Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin, D02 T380, Ireland

All processing described above, in particular the setting of cookies for reading information on the device used, only takes place if you have given us your express consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. When you call up a page of our website that contains such a plugin, your browser establishes a direct connection to the provider's servers to load the plugin. Certain information, including your IP address, is transmitted to the provider.

If playback of embedded videos is started via the plugin, the provider also sets cookies to collect information on user behaviour, create playback statistics and prevent misuse.

If you are logged in to a user account with the provider during your visit, your data is assigned directly to your account when you click on a video. If you do not want assignment to your account, you must log out before activating the play button.

All processing described above, in particular the setting of cookies for reading information on the device used, only takes place if you have given us your express consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR. 12) Tools and other

Cookie consent tool

This website uses a so-called "cookie consent tool" to obtain valid user consent for cookies, comparable technologies and storage in the browser (e.g. localStorage, sessionStorage) where consent is required. The tool is shown when a page loads in the form of an interactive interface on which consent for specific services can be given by ticking boxes. Consent-requiring services are only loaded and access to device storage for non-essential purposes only occurs when the user gives the corresponding consent.

The tool sets technically necessary cookies to store your cookie preferences. Personal user data is generally not processed in the process.

If personal data is nevertheless processed in individual cases for the purpose of storing, assigning or logging cookie settings (such as the IP address), this is done in accordance with Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR on the basis of our legitimate interest in legally compliant, user-specific and user-friendly consent management for cookies and thus in a legally compliant design of our website.

Another legal basis for processing is Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR. As the controller, we are under a legal obligation to make the use of technically unnecessary cookies dependent on the respective user's consent.

Where necessary, we have concluded a data processing agreement with the provider that ensures the protection of our site visitors' data and prohibits unauthorised disclosure to third parties.

Further information on the operator and configuration options of the cookie consent tool can be found directly in the relevant user interface on our website.

13) Data subject rights

  • Right of access pursuant to Art. 15 GDPR;
  • Right to rectification pursuant to Art. 16 GDPR;
  • Right to erasure pursuant to Art. 17 GDPR;
  • Right to restriction of processing pursuant to Art. 18 GDPR;
  • Right to be informed pursuant to Art. 19 GDPR;
  • Right to data portability pursuant to Art. 20 GDPR;
  • Right to withdraw consent pursuant to Art. 7(3) GDPR;
  • Right to lodge a complaint pursuant to Art. 77 GDPR.

IF WE PROCESS YOUR PERSONAL DATA ON THE BASIS OF A BALANCING OF INTERESTS IN FAVOUR OF OUR OVERRIDING LEGITIMATE INTEREST, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO OBJECT AT ANY TIME, ON GROUNDS RELATING TO YOUR PARTICULAR SITUATION, TO SUCH PROCESSING WITH EFFECT FOR THE FUTURE.

IF YOU EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO OBJECT, WE WILL CEASE PROCESSING THE DATA CONCERNED. FURTHER PROCESSING REMAINS RESERVED IF WE CAN DEMONSTRATE COMPELLING LEGITIMATE GROUNDS FOR PROCESSING THAT OVERRIDE YOUR INTERESTS, FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS, OR IF PROCESSING SERVES THE ASSERTION, EXERCISE OR DEFENCE OF LEGAL CLAIMS.

IF WE PROCESS YOUR PERSONAL DATA FOR DIRECT MARKETING, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO OBJECT AT ANY TIME TO THE PROCESSING OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA FOR SUCH MARKETING. YOU MAY EXERCISE THE OBJECTION AS DESCRIBED ABOVE.

IF YOU EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO OBJECT, WE WILL CEASE PROCESSING THE DATA CONCERNED FOR DIRECT MARKETING PURPOSES.

14) Duration of storage of personal data

The duration of storage of personal data is determined by the respective legal basis, the purpose of processing and, where relevant, the applicable statutory retention period (e.g. commercial and tax retention periods).

Where personal data is processed on the basis of express consent in accordance with Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, the data in question is stored until you withdraw your consent.

Where statutory retention periods apply to data processed in the context of contractual or quasi-contractual obligations on the basis of Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, such data is routinely deleted after the retention periods have expired unless it is still required for contract performance or initiation and/or we have no legitimate interest in further storage.

Where personal data is processed on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, it is stored until you exercise your right to object under Art. 21(1) GDPR, unless we can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for processing that override your interests, rights and freedoms, or processing serves the assertion, exercise or defence of legal claims.

Where personal data is processed for direct marketing on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, it is stored until you exercise your right to object under Art. 21(2) GDPR.

Unless otherwise indicated in this statement for specific processing situations, stored personal data is otherwise deleted when it is no longer necessary for the purposes for which it was collected or otherwise processed.
